Boat Maintenance Checklist

After you have broken your engine in you will need to have a maintenance plan that includes routeen checks every time you use your boat.

These Checks will not take very long and can make the difference between your motor engine living a long life or dieing at an early age.

DAILY CHECKS

You should include in your daily checks the checking of a few key items.

1. Make sure your oil tank, (if there is one) is topped up with premium grade oil. If you have a 4 stroke engine please be sure you check the crank case oil level and fill it up if low. Refer to your owners manual to find out if your dip stick should be screwed in or left unthreaded while checking your oil level. Having it incorrect can result in a false reading and lead to overfilling or underfilling your engines crankcase, which leads to problems later on.

2. Check that your fuel level is high and you have enough petrol to last the trip. Also make sure that your fuel vent is open.

3. Tilt your engine up and check for excess oil built up on or near your propeller. This could mean that you have seal that has been deteriorated in your lower gear case. Check reguarly for changes in the oil buildup.

4. Check for fishing line wrapped around your propellor or any other type of line, string or plastic. This will cause gear case seal faliure and should be removed.

There are more that we could list but the above are the main ones.
