Solve Anchor drifting problems.

A boat anchor suited to your boat and the location your boat is at is important for the safety of your boat. If your having trouble with the anchor of your boat please read this article to find out some tips.

1. Diagnose the problem the anchor.
There are always going to many different answers and problems with your boat anchor, the main few are having the correct size and shape for your boat and the circumstances you are using your boat. It is often better to get the correct anchor before it causes much bigger problems.

2. Investigate the Anchor Tackle.
If you find yourself straying from your anchored position constantly it may not be your anchor at all, before checking anything else, investigate if your anchor tackle to see if the line is slipping or not. If the line is slipping, then that is your problem.

3. Adequite Line for your Anchor.

By giving your anchor too much slack it enables the anchor to drift and you will wander from your location. On the other hand, giving it not enough slack will cause the anchor to not reach the bottom and therefore it isnt actually anchoring you at all. Instead the boat is pulling around an extra weight which will be slowing your drift but not actually keeping your boat from drifting.

4. Is your anchor heavy enough?
ANother reason for drifing is when your anchor is not heavy enough for your boat, if the anchor doesn’t weight enough it won’t have the ability to keep your boat secure in the same position for any amount of time. To remedy this problem, please go and buy a replacement heavier anchor or buy a second anchor to use in conjunction with teh one that is too light.

5. Correct type and shape.
Check that you have the correct type of anchor for the correct situation you are boating in. There are some anchors that are great for bodies of water that have sand floors, and there are others that are better for rocky surfaces. Check with you local boating authority to find out the flooring of destination and make sure your anchor is the correct for the flooring that you are traveling to.
